"My colleague and me been running our NGO together for four years. Through our focus on the external world in the last four years we achieved some great results. While doing this we forgot about our relationship as friends and managers through the work stress and load we stopped communicated with each other about our dreams, needs and emotions. We came to a stalemate in our relationship. Through the facilitation of Annika we started to open up, listen and engage with to each other again as person. It really help me to find myself again in the relationship, it create space for forgivness of myself and my friend and create a opening to build our new relationship. We still on the journey of building our new relationship and i am grateful for Annika work to unlock the potential again in our working together. " Dieter
"I got the strength to mobilise other people to bring change amongst young people in our home town. I noticed that people want and are eager to bring change and help, but sometimes it is a matter of where to start and what do I start with?" NN
"For me it's a time of reflection - reflection on how I conduct myself in life with others and myself. What is the nature of my communication with myself and others and how it can be improved by giving more thought to the feelings and processes involved. NVC involves taking a deeper look at what we say, how we say it and the resulting consequences. It answers the question "am I fulfilling my needs and the needs of others?" It explores the seeds of possible violence that can be contained in our unwitting use of certain words. It sharpens our observations regarding the behaviour of ourselves and others in all situations and the types of communication that we employ. With greater understanding of ourselves and others it is hoped that greater empathy will develop.
These problems can be explored in a non-judgemental way through our interactions and certain NVC exercises with other members of the practice group. Our perceptions are challenged and new thought processes can come into play." Graham Thomas
"For me, it means a time to practice connecting and understanding myself and others. What is the feeling? What is the need? What I have found magical is that there may be a very difficult situation or impasse. For example, I might tell you about my favorite movie, but you find it very disturbing. NVC allows us to connect - I find it interesting because I love its sense of adventure, whereas you are disturbed because the main character dies and you wonder how his family and loved ones felt. But now we are having a conversation, we can connect and share ourselves. Before we might just dismiss each other's points of view and count it as just another point of difference.
It is a slow process, but I feel so empowered by knowing that there actually is a way to express myself and connect with others authentically - to spend time understanding my feelings and be able to ask for what I need. The practice group offers a safe space to learn NVC techniques as well as to review difficult situations and replay them using the principles of NVC. Understanding the other person's point of view through a replay gives me more insight, and hopefully another step towards being able to do it myself in the moment!" Farzaneh Behroozi
